Couples Adventure Sessions | What are they? & What to expect!

Hello Friends,

Newly engaged friends! Loved up couples! … or maybe just mildly curious, either way I’m here to spill it all on our Couples Adventure Sessions, what are they, why they’re important and what to expect, if you book yours!

Firstly, I just want to take a minute to say I love couples sessions, not only are they a super fun date with your partner, you’ll also have lots of adorable photographs of your relationship to display around your home afterwards. I personally believe that having professional photographs of your relationship, whether you’re getting married or not, is something pretty powerful… seeing that love and emotion you both share from an outsiders perspective, is priceless!

However, if you are getting married… it’s also an amazing opportunity for you both to hang out with me, uninterrupted, before the wedding! I mean who wouldn’t want to hang out with this cool cat - I even have a camera lens mug! lol.

Hello! It’s Me, your geeky Photographer… with my super awesome camera lens mug of course, because are you even a photographer if you don’t have a camera lens mug?!

So, what exactly is a Couples Adventure Session?

Couples Sessions can also be known as a pre-wedding sessions or engagement sessions, they pretty much do what they say on the tin - they’re a fantastic way for you to celebrate and commemorate the love you have for your partner, and if you happen to be getting married they can also serve as a practice run for having your photo taken together ahead of the big day, but primarily they are designed to capture the love and emotion you share for each other in a fun and adventurous way.

Or - they’re just a really fun alternative day date with your partner, which leaves you with some amazing artwork to display in your home!

You’ll have heard me talk about this before but, in this digital age, we take so many photographs that sit in our camera rolls and hard drives, yet we rarely ever look at them or print them, which I think is an incredible shame - photographs should be experienced and it was one of my photography resolutions this year to advocate for the printed photograph! We have so many selfies together, but we rarely ever print and frame a selfie! They pretty much live in our digital universes, mine included. During your couples session I aim to create captivating artwork for you, which you’d be happy to frame and display around your home.

Display your photographs and be proud of the love you have for each other; being in love is amazing!!!

“We’re really awkward though!”

Firstly, pretty much every single person I have taken a photograph of, has said this and they always apologies for being awkward but I’ve found that once we get into things, your session becomes much less awkward and much more fun. Honestly what you think is ‘awkward’ never shows, in fact it just looks like you are messing around and having a lot of fun - because you are!

I am a storytelling photographer which means I’m really not a fan of stiff poses, I would never put you in a ‘pose’ and expect you to stay in the ‘pose’ or stare straight down my lens.

Instead I will give you prompts to interact with each other. We might go for a walk, I might ask you questions, get you to chat with each other - “what is your favourite thing about each other?” “whisper something funny in her ear!” You might even want to have a wee dance, throw each other around or go in for some butterfly kisses!

All of these type of prompts create real emotion, which is my job to capture and honestly, it’s great fun!

“If you are looking for a relaxed, natural photographer then Lesley-Anne is your lady! I’ve had two shoots and honestly couldn’t recommend her enough. Her pictures say it all. She manages to capture the most amazing pictures and moments, while keeping you relaxed and not feeling awkward.” - Amy A.

“Where should we have our Adventure session?”

For all Adventure Sessions, I suggest that you choose a place that has meaning to you personally - this could be local woodlands, a beach, you could create your own adventure land right at home ore where you had your first date, where you got engaged or even where you are going to get married! There are lots of locations to choose from and I’m always happy to help you decide on a location.

“Can we bring our KID(s) or pet(s)?”

If you have kids or pets, it’s totally understandable that you might want to include them in your couples session. As a baby mama and pet mum myself. When I recently had couples photographs taken I made sure I had both of them there. I always jump at the chance for kids and pets to be involved in photoshoots. For your pet all I ask is that for the first 10 minutes of the photoshoot we leave your pet in the car or have someone else who can look after them for 10 minutes, while we get the more intimate photographs. Similarly I’d recommend (if possible) bringing another guardian to entertain kids too, whilst we focus on the more intimate photographs before we have them join in!

“Can we do something - unconventional?”

Of course!! Unconventional is my middle name. I am always up for your crazy, alternative ideas… weird and wonderful locations, multicoloured smoke bombs, embracing the Scottish seas/weather… flying off to a hotter climate for something completely different?! Throw your ideas at me… I’m all ears!

“We’re not getting married though!”

As I mentioned, you don’t need to be getting married to book a couple session with me, as long as you are completely loved up, that’s all that matters!

Couples adventure sessions can be for the already married, not getting married at all or hoping to get married soon! If you do happen to be getting married though, your couples session photographs can be great for your wedding stationary, save the dates, invites or table names!

For save the dates, these are something I can design and have printed for you - just ask!
